The turn of the Year, and we hit a great milestone. We recently conducted our first Closed Beta, allowing a select group of players to experience the game and offer feedback. In this post, we will discuss what we tested, what we discovered, and how these insights are helping us refine Steel Aces.
Beta Goals and Scope
- Core Mechanics
We wanted to assess the “feel” of tank handling, turret rotation, and the basic armour penetration system. Players had access to a few tank models, each designed to highlight different gameplay styles. - Map Flow
Our first map was included to test how players navigated terrain, used cover, and coordinated with teammates in objective-focused matches. - Technical Stability
We also monitored server performance, matchmaking systems, and overall stability to ensure large-scale battles could function without major hitches.
Community Feedback and Observations
- Vehicle Responsiveness
Many players loved the sense of weight and momentum, although some suggested fine-tuning for slightly better turning or acceleration in different weight classes was important - Map Balance
A few spawn points led to repetitive choke points. We are planning to adjust layouts so that battles flow more dynamically. - Damage Feedback
Some testers wanted clearer visual or audio cues when critical tank modules took damage. We will be refining the HUD and sound effects to address that.
Early Lessons Learned
One major takeaway is the importance of visual clarity. When things get hectic, players need instant feedback about ammo, armour status, and objectives. We also saw a clear demand for variety in tank classes. Different players prefer different playstyles, so expanding the roster has always been a high priority.
What Comes Next
We have already begun planning and implementing changes based on these findings and more. Our plan is to run another, more extensive test soon, with revised tank controls, polished maps, improved user interface elements and again, more. We cannot wait to see how new testers (and returning players) react to these updates.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this first Closed Beta. Your feedback is a huge part of shaping Steel Aces into the best experience it can be.
