Steel Aces Dev Log #4: Operation Overhaul

After gathering tons of valuable input from our first Closed Beta, we have embarked on what we’re dubbing Operation Overhaul. This phase involves fine-tuning existing systems, adding new content, and making sure we address the community and our internal tests’ most pressing feedback.

Key Improvements and Additions

  1. Performance and Stability

We are optimising our code base and refining our use of Unity HDRP to ensure smoother gameplay across a range of hardware. This includes adjustments to lighting, textures, and memory management so that large-scale battles run more reliably with the intent of the hardware range we have.

  1. Expanded Tank Roster

We plan to introduce additional tank models with unique handling and weaponry. Some will excel at long-range engagements, while others might feature heavier armour for close-quarters brawls. We believe this variety will offer new strategies and team compositions, tuning the feel and the look of these is always a large journey for us.

  1. Map Revisions

Based on tester feedback, we are reworking certain spawn areas and adding more dynamic cover points. We also hope to introduce deeper expansion into the environments to appease the eye and not try to distract you from the battle.

  1. Crew System and UI Updates

We heard requests for clearer module damage indicators and more intuitive crew management. Expect to see refined HUD elements and appeasing interface adjustments.

Looking Ahead to the Next Beta

We are gearing up for our next Closed Beta, where these updates will be tested by a wider pool of players. Our goal is to validate performance improvements, check map balance, and gauge how the new tanks and crew options fit into the overall gameplay loop.

If all goes well, we will move closer to an Open Beta phase, where even more of you can jump into the fray and experience Steel Aces firsthand. As always, we want to hear from you. Please let us know what you think of these planned changes or anything else you would like to see. Until next time, thank you for following our progress, and we look forward to seeing you on the battlefield.
