Mick Graham Bringing His Artistic Talents to Steel Aces

Introducing Mick Graham: The Former 4th Royal Tank Regiment Crewman Bringing His Artistic Talents to Steel Aces

Mick Graham, a former member of the 4th Royal Tank Regiment and now a talented military artist, is lending his unique perspective to Steel Aces. Drawing on his extensive background in tank operations and military art, Mick promises to add remarkable depth and authenticity to the game’s development.

Mick’s story began in 1979, when he joined the Regiment as a young and inexperienced recruit. He served until 1993, cherishing memories of his first time at the tank’s controls and the exhilaration of firing on his B3 gunner’s course—indeed, he famously possessed a tank licence before he could drive a car. Through his art, Mick hopes to reignite a feeling of nostalgia among fellow veterans and enthusiasts alike: to conjure up the distinctive scent of diesel and cordite, the booming echo of a 120mm cannon, and the awe-inspiring sight of rounds finding their mark.

A self-taught artist, Mick has refined his technique over the years, working predominantly with acrylic paints. One of his earliest paintings—completed in 1980—still hangs proudly near his art desk, a reminder of how far he has come (and it is not for sale).

Additionally, we’ve recorded a series of interviews with Mick, in which he reflects on his Cold War experiences, shares humorous tales involving ‘bog rolls’, and recalls climbing onto tanks both in childhood and adulthood. Look out for these interviews on our YouTube channel and stay tuned for future instalments in this ongoing series. This article marks the first part of our in-depth conversation with Mick—there’s much more to come!
